London to Paris - July 2007

Team Star Inn and Gary at the 2007 finish of London to Paris

TEAM STAR INN 2007

Members of Team Star Inn set off a day early from their Bentworth Headquarters to a massive local send off. Four other unknowns joined Matt and Simon (Toby having left earlier so he could squeeze in a breakfast, lecture and a sleep) for the 60 mile warm up to London. The route became an interesting one with Matt clearly navigating using the stars but eventually they arrived in the city. The big start arrived and the team were all set for the off, slowly realising that this chap from Cornwall was still following them.

The organisers instructions were clear. Carry everything on you that is needed for the day and everyone must have a helmet. Unfortunately SImon only achieved a 50% pass at the start line as he sat on his bike helmet less. The team headed off with all riders in the first 15 as the field spread out. Simon came up with an ingenious plan so as not to get caught with out his lid. Both he and Matt cycled as fast as humanly possible clearing the lunch stop before the organisers had even arrived to set up.

Battling through busy traffic, lorry packed A roads and unforgiving hills the team eventually arrived at Newhaven to find Matt and Simon had already been in the pub for a few hours.

Day 2, and the cycling took the team to quiet country roads, beautiful chateau lined countryside and gently undulating hills. Still Gary was there despite forgetting to cycle on the right at one point. After a serious climb over a serious big bridge the bulk of the team arrived at lunch to find yet again Matt and Simon were no where to be seen.
